Nigeria recognizes a data subject’s right to request the deletion of personal data, but the right is neither absolute nor widely understood. This article examines the legal basis for erasure under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, the circumstances in which deletion may be required or refused, and the regulatory gap created by the absence of a clear response deadline for data controllers.
